Topic

Assembly - P4D
P4D have responsibility for an assembly on the Titanic - this production will be smaller than that undertaken for the Romans as P4D have to share the assembly time with P6. However just as before you need to keep focused and ensure that we are fully prepared.

Your task last week was to source costumes for the assembly - to help you 'get into role'.

We hope the creation of costumes is going well.
Notes from last week:

Costumes for Assembly

All the children have been allocated a part and so a costume appropriate to that role is required.

Please make use of material / items / clothes you already have - similar to the approach used for the wonderful costumes previously created for the Roman assembly. (We would prefer that clothes etc are recycled rather than purchasing something for the assembly).

If you have any items which may be helpful for others to use then please bring them into school.

The roles allocated are: first, second or third class passengers, crew or construction workers.

Know the script

Everyone will have been provided with a script (even if you do not have a speaking part)
Your task is to read the assembly script and prepare yourself for the part you have been given. Remember to add expression and a loud voice.

Science Investigation

The Titanic was made from steel - this is similar to the material used to make spoons and forks.

The Titanic floated (until its fatal accident), so what would you expect to happen if you put a fork or spoon into water - will it float or sink?

If it floats great - that would explain why the Titanic floated, but if it sinks then why would a ship made from steel float?

To help experiment get some plasticine, blue-tack or other modelling material. If you roll it into a ball what happens - will it float or sink?

Can you find a way to make the modelling material float?

How does this experiment help you understand why the Titanic floated?

Can you bring your models into school to demonstrate to others how you made something which sinks into something which floats.
