P4 - Wed 26 Feb 2014

Primary 4D and 4H Homework due 4.3.14
Remember all homework is given out on a Wednesday and due in on the following Tuesday.

Reading
Please see your reading record for the pages you are being asked to read this week.

This week you have not been provided with an extra task to do with your reading book. Instead you will need to do some non-fiction reading to investigate instruments used to measure the weather and use this information to help build your own weather instrument. (See Project related homework).

Spelling
You have a list of  words to learn this week which are linked to our project on Water.  -

To practise your words you can either use the various activities on spelling city or if you do not have access to this website then, "look, cover, write and check".

Group Z can find their Water words at - Click-here
Group X & Y can find their Water words at - Click-here

Personal Spelling words - Click-here - these are words linked to water (including the water cycle).

You also have two personal enemy words to learn.

Maths

'Measuring Activity'.

In Maths we are about to start investigating what units of measure should be used to measure different 'things'.

For example what unit could you use to measure - length, weight (mass) or volume (capacity)

To help you discover about these follow the link and play the game

http://www.bgfl.org/bgfl/custom/resources_ftp/client_ftp/ks2/maths/measures/index.htm

Of course there are many different units which could be used to measure something.

For example - length could be measured in:

millimetres, centimetres, metres, kilometres, miles etc, so you need to think carefully to decide which unit of measure you should use.

What unit would be best to measure the length of  pencil, or the distance from Buckstone to Edinburgh Castle?

Talk to your parents about different units which can be used. Then use this information to help do the sheet.

Water Project - Weather Instrument
This is a 2 week project - this is the first week with completion due for the 11 March.

As part of our investigation into water we are also investigating the weather.

Your task is to:-
(a) research and discover what instruments are used to measure the weather and
(b) build your own instrument to measure a particular aspect of the weather.

Weather instruments could include

  • barometer
  • anemometer

You can read about these instruments at:

There are many others - and also remember to use books and ask other people.
