Topic

You should research and find a newspaper article on extreme weather which has occurred anywhere in the world. You will need to read articles in newspapers or online.

Examples of extreme weather which have happened recently are:
  • The flooding in England of thousands of homes because of the wettest winter on record.
  • The hottest year on record in Australia.
  • The USA being hit by a polar vortex.
  • Typhoon Haiyan which devastated part of the Philippines
You should then highlight the key features which make it a a newspaper article, these include;

  • A Headline
  • A Caption (if there is a picture)
  • What Happened (maybe why it happened)
  • Where it happened
  • When it occurred
  • Who was affected
  • Any Quotes (from eye witnesses)
  • The layout
Also highlight any VCOP which up-levelled (please not every full stop).

You will need to bring your newspaper article into school.

This activity is linked to your target to read non-fiction text.
